The Center for American Archeology, Kampsville, Illinois is pleased to offer a limited number of merit-based scholarships for women students wishing to enroll in either the High School Field School Program or the Adult Field School Program during Summer 2013. These scholarships are made possible through a generous grant made by the Monticello College Foundation in Godfrey, Illinois, a former women’s college. Scholarship money will help cover CAA program tuition; scholarship recipients are responsible for their remaining tuition balance, travel expenses, and personal spending money. Awards are determined by review of the Statement of Interest and teacher recommendations (as appropriate for program). The amount of scholarship awarded will vary by applicant; it is the Center’s goal to assist as many women as possible. Because the total amount of scholarship funds available is limited, awards covering the full tuition amount are not made.
Application Process & Requirements:
High School Field School Program & Advanced High School Field School Program (June 17-July 12, 2013): Female students ages 13-17 interested in applying for a scholarship must submit 1) Internship & Scholarship Application Form; and 2) a brief (1-2 pages) Statement of Interest, in which you describe your interest in archeology, future education and career plans, and why participation in the CAA’s High School Field School will help them achieve your goals. Applicants should also indicate how many weeks they wish to attend the program, and the dates of those weeks. The Internship & Scholarship Application Form and Statement of Interest should be sent in with the applicant’s complete Registration Packet (without tuition deposit; make sure you submit your permission & medical form!) and two Teacher Recommendations (see “Registration Packet” on the main page of the website for teacher recommendation forms).
Adult Field School Program (July 15-August 9, 2013): Women 18 and older, who are currently enrolled in college or graduate school and who are majoring, or planning to major, in archeology, anthropology, or a related field (e.g., cultural studies, museum studies, geography, etc.) are eligible to apply for scholarship support. Rising freshmen, or recent college graduates who will be enrolling in a graduate program in the next academic year, are also eligible. To apply, please submit:

One letter of reference from a professor or instructor (may be mailed or emailed separately by your referee to address below). Recommendations received after the deadline will not be accepted. Please make sure you give your referee plenty of advance notice!
